This job will be to drive parts setup and Cost Reduction, either through redesign or movement to a new supplier. This would involve project managing all aspects of the project, including planning and project justification, supplier selection, communicating parts requirements to suppliers, working with them to obtain prototypes and samples, working with Engineering to ensure that part design and samples conform to design requirements, working with Engineering to validate parts once they are provided, understanding and managing all supply chain impacts of the part work and managing introduction of the part to production.


Above all, the candidate would be expected to learn and absorb experience in a production manufacturing environment and organization to grow their skills over the summer.


Responsibilities will include a mix of Project Management and Supply Chain / Supplier Management activities:

  • Work with other other PMO members, Engineering and Supply Chain experts to understand the overall plan and schedule for part setup
  • Work with suppliers to come up with detailed plans and dates for all aspects of part setup, delivery and validation
  • Work with supply chain and other PMs to develop Part Cutover plans and dates to introduce the parts to production
  • Work with Engineering to ensure the accuracy of part drawings and specifications and to include their participation in all supplier management
  • Work with manufacturers to run Pilots to build the parts into full products
  • Work with Engineering to validate the part and the corresponding product(s)
  • Perform day-to-day management of the supplier and the Zebra team to ensure that the project is on track and mid-course corrections are made as necessary
  • Build a relationship with team members at the supplier, Zebra and the product manufacturer to ensure good communications and crisp execution of all tasks
  • Report progress and status on a weekly basis to the team
  • Perform project risk mitigation as neeeded to address delays and midunderstandings

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of Project Planning, Management and Status Reporting
  • Basic understanding of part drawings (primarily mechanical) and specifications, including 3D modeling techniques and tools
  • Basic knowledge of Engineering design and validation concepts
  • Basic knowledge of part manufacturing processes such as molding, assembly and quality assurance
  • Basic knowledge of product assembly, Bills of Materials and assembly and test fixtures
  • Good communications and people interaction skills
  • High energy and motivation
  • A willingness to learn and grow skills in a real, hands-on manufacturing project
  • At least two years of college courseware in the above areas
